About the Begley family
We come from other illustrious familes: Beaumont, Reid, Chadwick, Geddes, Higgins, and many others
Our roots are in Oldham, Romiley, Hyde, Aberdeenshire
We may not be that famous a family but we have had our moments:
- Freddie Rothwell was in the RAF during WW2 and flew many types of planes. He was squadron commander on Typhoons in the 50s and also trained air forces in Thailand and Africa.
- Arthur Rothwell was in the army during WW2, stationed in Iceland, and London. He wrote guides for the D-day landings, and worked with a cap called Louis C. King, nephew of Chiang Kai-shek. He emigrated to the US and was Louis's business manager. His 2nd wife (Joy) was related to Margot Fonteyn.
- The previous Rothwell generation manufactured bicyles and then in the 1900s invented a motor car.
